We look forward to working with Writing Program faculty on the development of an Engaged Scholarship-Expos course and on the preparation of an application. You may access the online application here: Curricular Innovation Awards for Engaged Scholarship-Expos Courses
There are four (4) components to the application, as follows:
1. Note of Interest (NOI)
- Please submit a brief paragraph(~300 words) stating your interest in developing an Engaged Scholarship course, to Flavia Peréa, Director of the Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship, at firstname.lastname@example.org
2. Meeting to discuss your course concept in advance of preparing an application.
- When submitting your NOI, set-up a time to discuss the concept for your course with Flavia Peréa, Director of the Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship, at email@example.com
3. Meeting with Tom Jehn, Sosland Director of the Harvard College Writing Program, to discuss your course concept in advance of preparing an application. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
4. Submission of the Curricular Innovation Awards for Engaged Scholarship-Expos Courses application.The application, which you will complete on the following pages, will ask you to provide the following information:
- Faculty Information
- Statement of Course Mission
- Description of how the community engagement component is conceptualized for the proposed course (it is not necessary to identify a community collaborator at this stage)
- Preliminary list of learning goals for the course
- Preliminary outline of assignments and how they capture the integration of community engagement in the course (assignments not expected to be fully developed)
- A description of how the Office of the MPES can support your development of the course
- A brief letter of support from Tom Jehn, Sosland Director of the Harvard College Writing Program (A template letter of support is available on the MPES website. This template maybe used or adapted as appropriate)
- A course syllabus (if proposing to redesign an existing course)
Application should be submitted by February 5, 2018.
Faculty selected for funding will be informed by March 2018.
Funds disbursed in the spring 2018.
Applications submitted after the due date may be reviewed and considered for funding at the discretion of the Course Development Awards Application Review Committee.
Disbursal of Funds:
Award recipients may receive the $5,000 award as research funds (non-taxable), which may used for teaching and research purposes. Receipt of the award as salary (taxable) will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Awards will be made in a single lump-sum payment
