Huiwen Chen is a sophomore in Eliot House pursuing a concentration in either Computer Science or History of Science with a focus on Technology, Information, and Society. With an interest in the social impact of technology, Huiwen hopes to address social justice issues using technology as a tool. Particularly, she is passionate about combatting health inequity and racial inequality. As an Eliot House Public Service Representative, Huiwen is eager to create resources to help her peers understand health disparities from an intersectionality perspective and foster a sense of agency for health equity. During her first year, she participated in Harvard’s SPARK program and the Fong Family Winternship through which she gained more exposure to the nonprofit sector. At Harvard, Huiwen is involved with Datamatch as a Statistics team lead and student organizations related to global health. Outside of Harvard, Huiwen is the Executive Director at Detester Magazine, a youth-led nonprofit with a mission to promote racial solidarity and social justice through creative mediums such as writing, art, and podcast.
