Harvard College Summer Service Opportunities

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The Priscilla Chan Summer Service Award will cover the summer earnings contribution for students on financial aid who apply and are accepted into the following summer service opportunities at Harvard College: Mindich Service Fellowships through the Center for Public Interest Careers; Institute of Politics Director’s Internships; and Phillips Brooks House Association’s Summer Urban Program.

Our public service offices/organizations at Harvard College provide amazing opportunities for students to devote their summers to public service. Students are encouraged to explore the opportunities listed below and to apply for a transformative summer in service. 

Center for Public Interest Careers
CPIC offers funding as well as structured internships for students during the summer. CPIC staff work closely with students to find opportunities at nonprofit or social services organizations. CPIC programs also offer mentoring and professional development opportunities for students. CPIC internships are mostly based within the U.S.

Institute of Politics
The IOP Internships Program offers comprehensive and exciting internship opportunities in politics and public service during the summer for Harvard undergraduates. The IOP provides resources to enable students to incorporate their passion for politics into their summer experiences. The IOP’s Director’s Internship Program and Summer Stipend Program allow students to gain experience in the public sector that may otherwise be difficult to obtain or finance.

Office of Career Services
OCS offers a variety of ways for students to find funding for international public service opportunities.  OCS gives students flexibility to select an internship or volunteer opportunity with an organization.

OCS International Internships and Volunteer Opportunities Funding: OCS offers funding for students devoting their summer to self-arranged international service internships and volunteer opportunities. See the OCS website for application instructions and eligibility requirements. Deadline on February 7th, 2018 at 5:00 PM.

Phillips Brooks House Association
Each summer, PBHA operates 12 student-run summer camps for children in Boston and Cambridge. Approximately 150 college students work in these communities. Serving over 800 youth, the summer programs are structured into mornings of curricular, classroom-based enrichment and afternoons of field trips in and around Boston. PBHA's Summer Urban Program hires directors, senior counselors, and junior counselors during the spring to operate these summer programs.
