'18-'19 First Year Service to Society Council

 

aaronAaron Abai is a first year living in Apley Court hoping to concentrate in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a secondary in African-American Studies. Though he has roots in Ethiopia, he was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and raised in Littleton, Colorado. Aaron cares deeply about issues of social inequality, and hopes to be a force for inclusion and social justice at Harvard. Outside of the Council, Aaron is involved with the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations and the Harvard Society of Black Scientists and Engineers. andreaAndrea Rivera is a first-year student at Harvard College concentrating in Neurobiology with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where she developed her passion for increasing access to both medical services and education in rural communities. Outside of the council, she is a writer for both the Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal and the Harvard Science Review. She is also a member of Raise Uganda Now, a non-profit organization run by university students who are dedicated to providing a home, family, and education to 45 children in rural Uganda. cathyCathy Sun is a first-year in Thayer who hopes to concentrate in Social Studies. She was born in Singapore, and has lived in both Shenzhen, China and Irvine, California. She is passionate about social justice, activating youth political engagement, and empowering her community through service. elizabethElizabeth Guo s a first year student from Dallas, Texas who is living in Wigglesworth Hall and representing Crimson Yard. She is planning to concentrate in Physics with a secondary in Spanish. Elizabeth is passionate about the public service scene here at Harvard, cherishing her experiences as a FUPpie and a First-Year Day of Service team leader. Outside of the First-Year Service to Society Council, Elizabeth writes for The Crimson and is involved in PBHA’s Small Claims Advisory Service. Elizabeth enjoys singing, watching movies, and traveling, and she can’t wait for an exciting year serving on the Service to Society Council! kevinKevin Ballen is a first-year student hoping to concentrate in the social sciences. Kevin lives in Holworthy Dorm and is originally from Boston, MA. Before coming to Harvard, Kevin worked for a few years for the Mayor of Boston and the YMCA, running the ENGAGE initiative, focused on K12 social-emotional and civic learning and years of service. Kevin is most excited about guiding individuals in finding their "click moment" of their agency. Now coming to college, Kevin is excited to make Harvard the leading institution for civic learning and engagement. TwylaTwyla Kantor is so excited to be on the First-Year Council! She is from Westchester, NY and currently lives in Mower. She's not quite sure what she wants to concentrate in, but she is thinking of studying Psychology with a secondary in Education.
