Location

Phillips Brooks House is located in the northwestern corner of Harvard Yard. Please feel free to call us at 617-495-5526 if you have any questions about getting here. Please see maps above to find location. We strongly suggest printing out the map and directions below (based on mode of transportation preference). 

via MBTA Subway

Take the Red Line Subway to Harvard Square Station. When you get off the train, take the Church Street/Harvard Yard exit rather than the main Harvard Square exit (take the stairs/escalator rather than the ramp). When exit the turnstiles, take a left up the stairs to Harvard Yard (follow the signs).

You should be standing in front of Johnston Gate (main gate). The Yard walls to your right and the First Unitarian Church to your left. Walk straight through the gate.

There is a guard house to your left if you ever get lost. Keeping Harvard Hall to your left and Massachusetts Hall to your right, continue down the main path. (Names of most Yard buildings are written above their green doors) Take a left, keeping Harvard Hall to your left. Walk pass the bike racks, the announcement kiosk, and Hollis Hall.

Take a left after Hollis Hall (between Hollis and Stoughton Halls). Holden Chapel should be in front of you, a shorter building with a blue, pentagonal façade. Take a right in front of Holden Chapel and walk straight forward. Phillips Brooks House will be in front of you. (Mower Hall to the left, Stoughton Hall to the right).

All day on-street parking is virtually impossible to find in or around Harvard Square. In many areas, on-street parking is prohibited without a resident permit. If you are planning to drive, we advise you to leave yourself plenty of time to park.

Parking is available at the Harvard Square Parking Garage (car entrance is near 18 Eliot Street, pedestrian entrance at 64 JFK Street).

After you park your car, the pedestrian exit takes your to 64 JFK Street. Staying side of the street of the parking garage and walk north (go uphill). Pass the park and Peet’s Coffee on your left. (If you see the Charles River, you’ve gone the wrong direction). Cross Mt. Auburn Street. Pass the Travel Agency, CVS, and Urban Outfitters on your left.

After one block, you’ll come across a busy intersection. Cross the street in the same direction you were traveling (towards Tory Row and the Crimson Corner Newsstand). Keeping the Crimson Corner Newsstand to your left, walk around the corner and pass the Harvard COOP, Bank of America, another CVS, etc. Continue walking in this direction.

Cross Church Street towards First Parish Unitarian. After crossing, take a sharp right to cross the island with the statue. Walk all the way towards and through Johnston Gate to enter Harvard Yard.
