Independent Internships and Volunteer Opportunities

The Center for Public Interest Careers has compiled the following list of ~250 public impact organizations in ~90 countries that have expressed an interest in having a Harvard student intern/post-graduate volunteer. Students are encouraged to use our list of organizations as a starting point to supplement their own research into their desired field and geographic region. The organizations self-reported information on a variety of metrics, including location, field of interest, hiring needs, positions available, and potential projects. This database will be updated periodically to reflect new submissions, so make sure you check this page for the most up-to-date version.

Disclaimer: CPIC does not verify the authenticity or legitimacy of the organizations listed in this document-- it is the student's responsibility to do so. Additionally, students are responsible for monitoring the safety and security of locations they wish to work in, consulting the State Department's country profiles and Harvard's GoinGlobal resource for up-to-date information. For more information and tips on how to evaluate postings, check out this Crimson Careers announcement.

Funding Resources

Please note that CPIC does not have the capacity to fund international projects at this time. We encourage students to apply to the OCS grants for Independent Internships and Volunteer Opportunities where available. Additional Harvard sources of funding may be available depending on the region or topic of your desired project.

Additional Resources

Many international institutes at Harvard run their own internship programs-- projects can be found directly on their websites. International Harvard Alumni Associations have also submitted information on programs they are affiliated with.
