First-Year Council (2021-2022)
Melinda Modisette

Hey everyone! My name is Melinda Modisette, and I love adventures, smiling, and the color neon yellow. I am planning on concentrating in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a secondary in Painting. I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I am on the Harvard Women’s Wrestling team after having wrestled for six years on my high school boy’s wrestling team and spending two years as captain. Other than volunteering, I have had the opportunity to create a few service projects on my own. Here is one highlight: In July 2019, I started a project called the Cross-Cultural Art Exchange where art students from different cities around the world collaborate to create mixed-culture art. In the first half of the project, each student is challenged to illustrate, in half an art piece, the defining characteristics of their home city and what part of their culture they want to depict to a student living abroad. Midway through the project, the art pieces are mailed to the students of the other country, and the last half of the piece is completed by a student of another culture. The finished art pieces show that it is the contrast between us that creates something beautiful. Feel free to check out the pieces at https://melgal.org/cross-cultural-gallery/! Other projects I have worked on include ABQ Fight COVID-19 (a mask donation and pandemic relief program: https://abqfightcovid19.com/), Saranam (obtaining household essentials to help homeless people transition into apartments), Senior Home Coloring Posters (drawing coloring pages on posters to hang around senior centers for the residents to color in) and many more. I am super excited to serve as one of your first-year council members! Please feel free to reach out or talk to me if you see me! I’m usually easy to spot as the person wearing a ton of neon yellow.
