Soy’s hometown is Melbourne, a pleasant beach town on the east coast of Florida. In high school, she started an organization called S.T.E.A.M. Engine in her hometown which is a group focused on increasing educational opportunities, especially in the fields of science and technology. Soy had the chance to expand her organization’s efforts the summer before coming to Harvard as part of the SPARK program. She has continued to serve as a cohort leader in the SPARK program for the past 3 years. Soy is particularly passionate about addressing the issues of inaccessibility in education as well as global health disparities in public service. Currently, Soy is part of a global health research team that is working on a bibliometric analysis assessing the authorship of health-related studies. The goal is to assess local research capacity in lower-income countries and better encourage equitable research practices in future global health collaborations. Furthermore, Soy is involved in volunteer programs on- and off-campus that relate to education and global health. In her free time, she enjoys golfing, surfing, and hiking with friends and family!
