Letter from Dean Khurana

Dear Harvard College Admitted Student,

Congratulations on your acceptance to Harvard College!

As Dean of Harvard College, one of my highest priorities is ensuring that we aspire to create a culture where every student is civically engaged in a meaningful way. As you decide whether Harvard College is the right community for you and begin to make plans for your summer, I am thrilled to let you know about an exciting new program.

SPARK is an internship for incoming first-year students to participate in civic engagement in their hometowns during the six weeks prior to the start of the fall semester. Students will apply their ideas and energy to public service projects at home while receiving ongoing support from Harvard’s faculty and public service staff. I encourage you to click on the link above to learn more about this program, and consider becoming an inaugural Harvard College Service Fellow.

When you arrive on campus in the Fall, we encourage you to remain civically engaged and contribute to communities around Harvard through the programs we offer at the Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship. You will have an opportunity to learn more about those communities at the Class of 2024 Day of Service on Friday, August 28.

We hope that the experiences you have at Harvard lead you to grow intellectually, socially, and personally. Congratulations again, and I look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Warmly,

Rakesh Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College
