Meridian Freedom Project - Summer Fellow

The mission of the Meridian Freedom Project is to grow a corps of academically capable, socially conscious, and mentally disciplined young leaders in Meridian, Mississippi. We work with kids who apply to join us, meeting them where they are, partnering with them and their families over the span a long-term fellowship (6th - 12th grade) so they have the freedom to make choices for their own futures after high school graduation, and beyond. We currently serve about 40 kids in grades 6th - 12th from 9 schools in our community.

Rosedale Freedom Project - Summer Fellow

The Rosedale Freedom Project is a non-profit youth empowerment organization that works with middle- and high-school students in the Mississippi Delta. Our mission is to support the Mississippi Delta’s young leaders in the development of critical consciousness and the practice of justice through community building, exploration, artistic creation, organizing, and the study of social history and grassroots democracy. Inspired by the legacy of the 1960's Civil Rights movement, we envision a world in which each individual, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, geography, or ability has the opportunity to actualize their fullest potential through their participation in a democratic community. Our work lays the foundation for this future by empowering students to critique and challenge oppression; engage in active community-building among their peers and in their town; and define the terms of their own liberation through artistic, intellectual, and social exploration.
